The
nearly 2000 members of Huguenot Society of South Carolina claim descent from almost 700
French Protestant (Huguenot) refugees who fled Membership in the Huguenot Society of South Carolina is open to all descendants of these Huguenot ancestors, without regard to the country to which the ancestor went or to current race, religion or residence. Descendants of the ministers who served the Huguenot congregations prior to 1787 are also eligible for membership in the Society. Applicants for membership must complete an application form and must submit it to the Society with the application fee and copies of supporting documentation which prove the lineage. Documentation already in the files of the society must be referenced on the form, but copies of such documentation do not need to be submitted. The staff of the Society can help applicants determine what documentation is needed. Copies of documentation in the files of the Society can be made, except for documentation which refers to people still alive. Application forms are available on-line and by regular or e-mail. New applicants for membership are encouraged to complete and submit a copy of the Lineage Sheet to the Society. A staff member will determine what documentation is already on file and what documentation is still needed. If there is an electronic copy of the lineage in the files of the Society, that can also be sent to the applicant. The application fee is $100 for all applicants, except those related within three generations of a documented lineage. The fee for these applicants is $50. Current members of the Society can also complete supplemental application forms for other ancestors. The fee for each supplemental form is $50. Junior members must complete the same application forms. Annual membership fees are as follows: Junior members (birth to age 17) -
