Ancestor List
The following is a list of approved ancestors represented by active members of our Society. Research is ongoing, and our ancestor list is constantly evolving as new information comes to light. We encourage new discoveries and are constantly updating this list. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all Huguenot ancestors.
Our Constitution states that “membership of this Society shall be as follows:
Firstly, All descendants in the direct male or female lines of the Huguenot families which emigrated from France prior to the promulgation of the Edict of Toleration, November 28, 1787.
Secondly, Representatives of other French families and descendants of Huguenots from other countries whose profession of the Protestant Faith was prior to the promulgation of the Edict of Toleration, November 28, 1787.
Thirdly, Descendants of pastors who led the Huguenot congregations in South Carolina prior to 1787.”
By definition, a Huguenot was a French Protestant. While there are many groups of francophone protestants, including the Walloons and French-speaking Swiss, our ancestors are required to have a lineage that originated in France. You may notice ancestors whose place of birth was a country other than France. In these cases, we have reason to believe that earlier generations of the family emigrated from France.
This portion of our website was made possible by a grant from The Samuel Freeman Charitable Trust.
