Two Upcoming Talks: The Walloons and the Huguenots

Both talks will benefit The Huguenot Museum, Rochester, England.

ROCHSTER, ENGLAND: On March 25 and April 22, Sandra Robinson MA will present illustrated talks to benefit The Huguenot Museum in Rochester. Members may recall several members of The Huguenot Society of South Carolina visited the museum last year as part of their tour in England and Ms. Robinson was a part of our learning experience. Both are richly illustrated talks, aiming to give a better understanding of the history, context and main events for the two main groups of French-speaking Protestant refugees who came to England/Britain in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries: the so-called Walloons, and the Huguenots.

“The first talk is on the Walloons and the second talk, on the Huguenots, will take place one month later,” noted Ms. Robinson. She added, “As it is important that friends, supporters and indeed anyone interested, who are in the USA or Australia have a chance to attend, and also recognizing that some people might be busy in the early evenings, I will be giving the talk twice each evening, once at 7pm UK time and once at 10pm UK time. There will be no recording or catch-up. “

Tickets are available via Eventbrite links below:

Where does their local nickname The Beggars come from? Which countries did they flee to, and how did they impact the places that took them in?

French-speaking Protestant Refugees Part II : The Huguenots from France Tickets, Multiple dates | Eventbrite

A recap on Calvin, then 220 years' history of the Huguenots (French Protestants) in three sections, focusing on their story inside the Kingdom of France itself. Along the way we will look at where the term Huguenot comes from, and their creation of the word refugee.

For those of you not in the UK, please note the potential confusion that the UK goes onto British Summer Time at the end of March.  So, the March 25th talks will be at GMT, but the April 22nd talks will be GMT+1.
