Episode Seven is a two part discussion on the recently updated history of The French Protestant Church in Charleston. Elizabeth is joined by Renée Marshall who has recently completed the Society’s update to the history pamphlet on the church, last published in the 1970’s. This first episode presents the history up to the point of the construction of the present day building.

Renée Marshall

Renée LaHue Marshall is Director of Research & Genealogy for the Huguenot Society of South Carolina. She has been involved with the Society since 1999. An historian and genealogist, Renée enjoys working in the Society’s library and archive, which is one of the largest repositories of Huguenot holdings in the United States. Renée and her husband Bill live on James Island. They have a son and a daughter in college, two dogs, and a cat. Her family attends the French Protestant Church of Charleston.

Elizabeth F. Gay

Elizabeth F. Gay is a thirty-year member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina and serves as its Executive Director.  A native of Charleston, South Carolina, she descends from French Huguenot immigrants Benjamin Marion and Thomas de Guerin. After a career in corporate communications, she retuned to Charleston in 2018 and brings her enjoyment of education through conversations to this podcast series as she visits with historians, authors and more.
