Dutarque - Jennins/Jennings and Bermuda

We received a request from the St. George’s Historical Society in Bermuda for help identifying Martha Dutarque Jennings who married Capt. Christopher Lusher in 1801. Needless to say, the Vertical File was nearly empty, but we were able to piece together a timeline from it and various other sources. We believe that she was the daughter of John Jennings of Bermuda and Mary Dutarque of St. Thomas and St. Denis Parish and the granddaughter of John Dutarque and Mary Serré and the great granddaughter of Louis Dutarque, weaver from Picardie in France, and his wife Christian Marie of Orange Quarter and great great granddaughter of Noe Serré and his wife Catherine Challiou of Charles Towne whose son Noë Serré [II] and his wife Esther [Michaud] lived in French Santee. We now have a respectable Vertical File on Dutarque and have discovered a new connection with Bermuda.
